GENERAL BOATING/BOAT INSPECTION

RULES AND REGULATIONS

FRANK G. BONELLI PARK - PUDDINGSTONE LAKE

SPEED LIMITS:

Puddingstone Lake is divided into three separate zones that regulate the speed of vessels:

1. Speed Zone: 35 M.P.H Maximum and 20 M.P.H. minimum, located on the east side of the lake

2. No Plane Zone: 12 M.P.H maximum, located in the center of the lake. Vessels are allowed to accelerate up to 12 M.P.H. in this area, but not plane off.

3. No Wake Zone: 5 M.P.H maximum, located in any of the coves, launch ramp areas and 100 ft. from any shoreline.

HOURS/DAYS OF OPERATION:

The lake is open from sunrise to sunset each day except Dec. 25. Fast boating begins at 10:00 A.M. and Is only allowed in the SPEED ZONE. No boat is allowed to exceed 12 M.P.H. in the SPEED ZONE before 10:00 A.M. At one half hour before sunset, fast boating ceases and all boats in the SPEED ZONE must slow to 12 M.P.H.

ODD-EVEN SYSTEM:

The ODD-EVEN SYSTEM separated power-boating and water skiing from personal water craft (P.W.C) activities. This system applies only to the SPEED ZONE and is in effect from April 1 through September 30, of each year. Water skiing and power boating over 5 M.P.H., are permitted on EVEN numbered days of the calendar only. ODD days are reserved for P.W.C.’s. During the remainder of the year (Oct. through March) both P and power boating are allowed in the SPEED ZONE.

BOAT INSPECTION:

All vessels must be inspected and issued a launch permit prior to launch.

PERSONAL FLOATATION DEVICES: (PFD’S)

Life preservers must be on board, of proper size and readily accessible at all times. Water skiers and Children 6 years of age or younger must wear a life preserver at all tiñies while on the water.

REGISTRATION:

Vessels requiring registration must have CF numbers properly displayed with current sticker and certificate of number on board the vessel. Vessels using electric trolling motors (including raft) also must be registered.

FIRE EXTINGUISHERS:

All motor boats shall carry fire extinguishers accepted by the U.S. Coast Guard. Exceptions are for boats without fixed fuel tanks and which do not have spaces where explosive and flammable fumes can collect. An example is an open hulled outboard aluminum motorboat.

LAUNCH RAMP:

Puddingstone Lake has two launch ramp areas. The power boat launch ramp, located on the north shore of the lake is generally designated for motor boats, PWC and other powered vessels. The Sailboat Cove launch ramp, located on the South shore, designated primarily for sailboats, float tubes, and other non powered boats. During the slow winter months non powered boats often must pass inspection at the powerboat launch and then proceed to sailboat cove to launch.

BOAT ENGINES:

All engines must have muffling device to keep engine noise to an acceptable minimum. Most unmodified outboards meet legal requirements. Inboards with unbaffled exhaust pipes (stacks) and water injected pipes generally de not meet legalnose level requirement Inboards must also be equipped with back fire flame control device if the engines is not exposed to the atmosphere above the level of the gunwale.

FEES:

A fee for launch is charged per day per vessel in addition to the vehicle entrance fee. The fee is non refundable is an operator is ejected from the lake for operational violations; Annual passes are available and can be purchased at the park headquarters.
