Biography — Agent Louis A. Pompei,
Glendora Police Department

Louis A. Pompei or "Louie" as friends knew him, was born on August 4, 1964 in Shenandoah, Pennsylvania and raised in the Mahanoy area of Pennsylvania where he graduated from High School in 1982. He continued his education graduating from Mansfield University, Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice Administration in 1986.

Louie was hired as a Police Officer trainee by the Glendora Police Department on October 12, 1987 and graduated from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Academy on March 4, 1988. He worked in the Patrol Division from 1988 to 1992, where he developed an enthusiasm for working narcotics cases. This led him to the Detective Division where he worked as a narcotics investigator from 1992 to 1995. Louie was assigned to a position with L.A. IMPACT, a major crimes multi-jurisdictional task force composed of officers from agencies throughout the county. This team was primarily dedicated to work major drug suppliers throughout Southern California.

Louie was a physical fitness buff, and body builder, working hard to stay in shape. He competed with officers from all over the state in the California Police Olympics, earning a silver medal in bodybuilding competition in 1994. He also was a runner on the Glendora-Monrovia-Arcadia Police relay team, which annually competes in the Baker to Vegas 120 mile Challenge Cup relay race.

What most people remember about Louie was his love of life. His enthusiasm was contagious; he always had a smile on his face and was always positive and outgoing. It was hard to feel down when Louie was around. Louie was a very giving person who you could always count on to help.

Louie's life ended prematurely on Friday, June 9, 1995 when he was shot and killed while attempting to stop an armed robbery takeover at a Von's Market in Via Verde. He was off-duty and intervened only when a box boy was being pistol whipped. He died in a fire fight, loyal to the Law Enforcement Code of Ethics, which states in pertinent part, "As a law enforcement officer, my fundamental duty is to serve mankind; safeguard lives and property; to protect the innocent against deception, the weak against oppression or intimidation and the peaceful against violence or disorder. . ." This was Louie at his best, upholding the ideals of a protecting those who could not protect themselves. He died a hero. We, his coworkers, friends and family miss him and we will never forget his love of life and his enthusiasm for his profession.
